Our Fight of the Week is Alexander Volkanovski vs Movsar Evloev, the featherweight title fight that headlines UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi on Saturday 24 October. It’s the main event of a card with two title fights on it, and the main card starts at a friendly hour in Latvia: 21:00 Riga time.
Why this one
Most title fights ask who’s better. This one asks something more interesting: what is a 20-0 record actually worth? Evloev has won every fight of his professional career, ten of them in the UFC, and all ten of those went to the scorecards. He wins rounds, takes people down and rarely gets hurt. Nobody at featherweight has found the answer.
Volkanovski is the best test there is. He’s 38, he was knocked out twice in 2023-24 and plenty of people thought he was finished. Instead he beat Diego Lopes twice and is defending the belt for the second time this year. If anyone can make Evloev fight from behind, it’s him.
What to watch for
Evloev’s last fight tells you where to look. Lerone Murphy beat him on the feet for two rounds in March, and then Evloev landed 9 of 10 takedowns over the last three and won a majority decision. Watch the first time Evloev shoots. If Volkanovski stops it and stays in the middle of the cage, this is his fight. If Evloev gets him down and keeps him there, the belt changes hands on points.
Our pick, along with the tale of the tape and full recent form, is in the Volkanovski vs Evloev preview.
